Why should you choose a nutrition software over an Excel/ Word?

Why should you choose a nutrition software over an Excel/ Word?

This article was written by Alejandra Piñeiro, nutrition professional and the co-founder of the online course "Perder grasa de la A a la Z" and Nutrium client.

If you are thinking of hiring a software solution for your appointments, you are probably wondering what a nutrition software like Nutrium can offer you that you cannot do by yourself with Excel or Word.

It is a perfectly logical question since one could set up one's own consulting system exclusively with these two tools. However, there are certain drawbacks when doing it this way that is worth considering.

The first, and in my opinion the most important one, is time investment.
Let me explain:

If you're just starting your practice now, it's probably going to take you a few months to settle your own working system. If you do it only with the help of Excel/ Word, you will have to create your own documents, make them presentable, create the Excel sheets for nutritional assessment, and create the templates.

On the other hand, you must take into account the hours it will take you to learn how to use your own programs. The vast majority of people do not know how to use Excel properly. You will then have to find out how to enter different formulas, how to create nice and pleasant charts to deliver the clients.

This task will take months. I say this from experience.

Nutrium gives you everything already set to go as its interface is very intuitive and easy to use.

The second problem is the value perceived by the client. This is not entirely fair, as there can be perfectly calibrated diets without using these programs. However, in the eyes of the client, the value is not the same.

People will be willing to pay more if they know they have a mobile app at their disposal or if they know their diet is calculated with advanced software.

On the other hand, there are certain advantages to having a program like Nutrium in your consultations. Let's list them in a quick summary so that you can evaluate the usefulness of this type of tool yourself.

Advantages for the nutrition professional:

1. You won't have to go crazy calculating diets by handNutrium has many different food composition tables in its database so you can select the ones that suit you best.

2. Speed up the process of creating diets. As I mentioned before, the time investment you will have to make when starting your activity using Excel or Word. To this, you must also add the extra minutes that you will surely invest in making each of the meal plans with this methodology. Surely you would work faster with software where everything is already integrated. And don't forget: time is money.

3. Help you manage your appointments. Organize your agenda, reschedule appointments, send reminders, etc. These are things you cannot do with any other program.

4. Integration with other services. If you work in a sports center, for example, you can use Nutrium gym to manage your clients.

5. Constant upgrades. At Nutrium, they upgrade their nutrition software regularly so that you can always offer the best service. For example, they have recently included the possibility of adjusting the client's nutritional requirements daily, something which is tremendously useful for athletes where expenditure varies greatly depending on the training.

But these programs not only offer advantages for the professional, but also for the client.

Benefits for clients:

  • Increased client-professional interaction. The biggest advantage for the client is that it allows them to interact with their nutrition professionals in a simple way. By having a mobile app, the client can ask questions, check the meal plan and even register their meals and detail if they are compliant with the menu, and all of this in real-time.
  • Increased motivation. The Nutrium app can also be a tool for our clients to increase their motivation. You can set up mealtime reminders, drink water notifications, track the progress over the months, etc.

Every program has its pros and cons, the question is to evaluate the different options to find the one that best matches your working methodology.

Nutrium is the most up-to-date nutrition software for professionals with a mobile app to focus on clients' progress
