Partnership with Kingston University

Nutrium has partnered with Kingston University, in the UK to allow students from the Nutrition (Human Nutrition) BSc (Hons) and Nutrition (Exercise and Health) BSc (Hons) to use the software during the course time period.

The University is committed to enabling access to new technologies which enhance students’ learning. This will help students develop key competencies and skills preparing them for the future world of work.

What are the advantages

The Nutrition Human Nutrition and Nutrition (Exercise and Health) BSc (Hons) courses sit within the School of Life Sciences, Pharmacy and Chemistry, of the Kingston University, in the Faculty of Science Engineering and Computing, at Kingston University. They are both accredited by the Association for Nutrition (AfN), nutritionists’ professional body.

The integration of the software in teaching of both programmes was made possible by Dr Pedro Barra who is the course leader for the Nutrition (Human Nutrition) BSc (Hons) programme.

"Nutrium will allow students to be trained in calculating energy and nutrient composition of foods and/or diets which is a key competency that any nutritionist must have. We were looking for a modern web-based tool that included a large database of foods, including the McCance and Widdowson’s The Composition of Foods integrated dataset (Co FID) and that used the UK Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) recommendations.", said Dr Pedro Barra.

"It was important that the software developers worked with nutritionists/dietitians whose role would be to ensure the scientific basis underlying the inner workings of the programme, e.g., databases used, formula used, client support, and validate output of the application. Nutrium met our requirements which is why we chose it for our students to use.", he added.

Students will have full access to Nutrium features where they will be able to calculate energy and nutrient composition of foods, dietary recalls and food records. They can also create client profiles, enter their history and anthropometric measurements, and create and analyse meal plans and recipes. In addition to the web-based software, they will also be able to explore the client's end with Nutrium mobile app.

How to benefit from this partnership

All students registered in this course will automatically have free access to Nutrium until they graduate.

As we want to help students as well as future graduates, when the course is complete, students can continue using the software with a special discount on future subscriptions. This might be of particular relevance to any graduates wanting to work as freelance nutritionists with clients, providing advice on healthy eating and physical activity.

If you are a student and have not received your access to Nutrium just send us your proof of enrollment to support@nutrium.com.

With this partnership, we take a step further in providing future practitioners with the tools to give innovative and improved nutrition counselling and to help universities complementing their educational offer.

We hope students can take advantage of this partnership and this early contact with our software will be of great value in the future.
